About Spam Comments in WordPress

As a wordpress blogger, iam using Aksimet Plugin to Auto Segregate Good Comments(Ham) from the SPAM.
Akismet is the brainchild of Matt Mullenweg, the founder of WordPress. Interestingly the guy is 25 years old.

Akismet is a contraction of Automattic Kismet. Our favorite definition of kismet is “Kismet (principle), the magnetic attractive force that actualizes the playing out of karma; often used in the positive sense.”

Here the picture above shows the spam comments captured by my aksimet plugin. Almost 60% of the comments arriving
to my blog are spam comments. And it peaked to 260 SPAM Comments when my blog got attacked during march 17,2010. Aksimet Plugin really does a commanding job in capturing SPAM Comments and almost most of the SPAM comments could be a part of web nuisance or a web malware.

Here is an intresting stat from Aksimet Blog. This is a Chart of ham and spam since Akismet has started. “Ham” is what we call a non-spam message.

And more interestingly 83% of the total spam comments caught by akismet are spam since 2005.
